There’s a weird fixation in our society, maybe even a fetish, with mind reading as proof of how much we love someone. One of my two-year-old’s favorite songs is “Love is an Open Door” from Frozen (please, when does it end) and that’s basically the underlying point. We must be meant for each other because we finish each other’s sandwiches and do robot mental synchronizations and all the rest of it.
It’s also basically the underlying theme of everyone coming out of the pods on Love is Blind. Everyone’s awestruck by the connection they felt by speaking (somewhat) vulnerably with another person through a wall. They expect that to continue after the pods, and when the relationship goes through inevitable hiccups (welcome to the real world), they begin to question love.
Dear reader, there is nobody in the world who can figure out what someone else wants without getting some kind of communication about what we need, want, and desire.
